Last day animation
For making the animation, we had one person hiding behind the box while Lisette took a picture from her laptop. It's just like pixolation. The image is supposed to be a person coming out of the box. Some people put on creepy faces. We call it our last animation because it was made on the last day and probably the last animation that we are going to do today.
heey everyone. It's Maya. So I'd just like to say that it's been really fun working with you all for the past week. we got a lot done, and had fun while doing the things we needed to do. If this program continues next summer, I certainly would like to come back, and hopefully most of you are going to do this year's KVA it should be a lot of fun. I'm helping out this year, and I'm really excited. Thank you Lisette for being here everyday and teaching us all these new things. I really learned a lot. See you on Monday for the showing of all of our work. Thanks again!

Wrapping up
today, we wrapped up everything and rehearsed the program on monday. it looked so real!!! i think i just can't wait for monday. right now, we are playing museum. i love it.
THAT'S A WRAP!
We just finished our last video production- filmed, edited, projected & rehearsed for our interactive performance on Monday for all of MATV, families, friends and admirers!
The kids in MMM have come SO FAR! All different ages and all different backgrounds with computers and video made for a interesting first day- but in no time at all each and every person filmed footage on the Flip cameras, recorded sounds on the Zoom, edited using iMovie, posted video on to YouTube, posted blog posts and changed the look of the blog, used Twitter, and created an interactive Choose Your Own Adventure game using YouTube annotations.
That is a TON of work for one week!
I am so proud of you guys.
Projection Madness
COOL!!! We did a lot of projections today!!! We took the projector and filmed a lot of stuff. The effect was supposed to be the real person talking to the projection person. it's really funny, and i think it's very appropriate for the last day of Multi Media Madness.
Today is the last day. Boo hoo.
Today is the last day. We practiced introducing the performance on Monday, August 8, 2011!!!!!!! At MATV Multi Media Madness!!!!! Yay!!!!!! Today we will have pizza but I wasn't sure so I brought lunch anyway. I was so glad that I learned so much in one week that I could practically make my own story. Yay!
Last Day
unfortunately today is our last day of Matv but we get pizza for lunch: Yay. we are also in class rehearsing our introduction to our presentation that takes place on monday the 8th at 7:00 p.m.. We are go to show the parent of the video that we made on this week and then we are go to has a funny show. Then we are go to show them the interactive video game on youtube.
It only took us a half an hour!!
We have all tested our interactive projection techniques already today!! Look at them------ they are completely awesome and super sweet and also totally cool. Right?
What we're doing next today is filming our video to be projected for our BIG FINAL PERFORMANCE ON MONDAY NIGHT AT 7PM HERE IN STUDIO A AT MATV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Making our interactive video
By Susan Cao
Yesterday, we did more things!! The thing we did in the morning are these: when I got there, Lisette showed me some video we watched yesterday. They were so cool!! The one I liked best is the tiger. The effect was a tiger running on top of the walls of buildings and stores. The tiger is actually a projection, and the projector runs on battery instead of a power line. That way, they can produce an animation projection of the tiger, and project in onto passing buildings and walls while driving. I thought that was soooo cool! It looked so real, and I’m sure the people in NY was probably very surprised!! The other animation projection is building. Then, suddenly, the house collapsed in the middle. It looked like the house is made of rubber, and then a ball suddenly poked from underneath the rubber, and so the rubber formed a ball shape. I think it was cool. In the end, it became a face. I have posted it above.
Later that day, we edited the girl’s interactive videos. I thought iMovie is a horrible, no offense, horrible software. It’s nothing like Final Cut. It shows the videos in a very confusing pattern, and, well, it just isn’t my type of software. I prefer Final Cut waaaaay better. Well, getting back to the story. We had everything imported from both cameras, but didn’t do any editing yet. So we took out the good parts, cut the bad parts out, and finally put in the choices. The video is about a team of girls and a team of boys. They are hunting for the Haunted Piano. One of the girls spits on her hand and shook hands with one of the boys. The boy spit on his hand too and shook hands with her. That was funny. that morning, we also edited the part where the girls split up and…….well, play the game to find out!
We also did some more blog posts, and had lunch. Lunch was fun. We played Truth or Dare. Lets just say someone asked another person about there most embarrassing moment. That person answered a very embarrassing thing, and Lisette heard all of it!!!!!!!!! We decided not to play that game again. instead, Gio came, and we told him he was 12 minutes late, and he said he was actually 18 minutes early.
Afterwards, we shot the video of the boys. They went to the park and heard something behind a tree, and Li John swung his baseball bat at the tree, almost hitting his two other friends. Then, they went in a forest and suddenly, two arrows flew toward them, and they almost died. After coming out of the forest, one of them tripped on a skateboard and broke their ankle. Then, a roll of tape swung towards them and hit one of them in the face. I thought that was funny. But probably not for them. The tape was very heavy, and I probably hurt to be hit by it.
Then, they split up. Two of the boys got soooo tired and fell asleep, and two of them had to go home and got grounded.
After that, we played some games. We played something called conductor. We have the conductor pick the theme, and he/she will point to a person. That person will start and he will keep on making the noise over and over again until the conductor points to them again. I thought that was a pretty good game, better than museum. I made a lot of noises, and I picked the cartoon theme when I was conducting. I had a great time that day.

Projection Test #2-- Maya's Soul Leaves Her Body!!!
Interactive PROJECTION Test #1
In lightning fast time, we have come up with a theory for being able to interact with our own projections. Right after lunch we figured out how to light it and how to shoot it, then we video recorded the test that we did of interacting with our projected image. We are going to use this for our final presentation.
we added sound
we learned a sound-creating game called conductor then we used the sounds to add in to our last animation! then we edited them together in imovie.
Our finished interactive video
Today, we finished linking our interactive video and posted it on youtube! Check it out above!!! This is the first video to start with to play the whole adventure. Others are in between videos. Make sure you start here!!!

We are uploading our video components to YouTube now that we finished editing them this morning!!
But you won't be able to play them like a game for a little while, cuz we need to hotlink everything and make the buttons that let us move through the game.

GREETINGS EARTHLINGS- Your DIY Reference Post!
Hey Media Madmen & Madwomen!
So a big part of this class is all about how you can take awesome basic techniques for creating movies, animations and interactive YouTube games and continue to make them without my help!
I am so confident in your ability to do it without me, I'm only giving you two more days of class after which you will totally absolutely definitely be able to do it all by yourselves--- I've given you the tools to keep the madness going long after this mad-person is gone, in other words.
The tools you need to create awesome videos, games and animations are out there for you to use-- all you need is a computer and a few software items, many of which you can find for free! If you ever forget every single thing I've told you during your week of Multi Media Madness, you can just check this posting on our blog to refresh your memory!
ANIMATION PROGRAMS:
In class we have been using a program called Frame Thief, a free program for Macs (it will prompt you to buy the registered version-- but, I promise you, you never ever ever will have to register it!) and the built-in iSight camera. You could also use any webcam.
If you do not have a Mac, or you want to be able to collect pictures from out in the world, you can follow these steps:
1) Use a digital camera to take photos (capture) your images-- stop motion, anyone?
2) Get those pictures on to your computer (organize them into their own cozy little file- don't rename them, the number code they come in with is perfect)
3) Use the Quicktime Pro (QTP) upgrade ($30 or so) and select from the QTP menu File---> Open Image Sequence---> then point to the pictures you just imported from your digital camera.
4) QTP will put all of your pictures (frames) in order-- then you can play through them, just the same way you flip through your flipbooks-- you can then export your movie as a .mov (a Quicktime file)!
VIDEO AND SOUND EDITING:
There are a wide variety of video and sound editors that can be found for free--- some work great, some don't.
In class, we have been using Mac programs iMovie and GarageBand.
If you're looking for a GREAT free sound editor, you can download a program called Audacity. (I encourage everyone to play with this great free program)
If you have a PC, they come standard with a video editor these days, too, I believe-- Anyone want to comment on this post to talk about the PC video editor?
IMPROV GAMES:
As an aside, we have been using some improv games to create interesting video, audio and just to blow off steam throughout the day. Interested in playing some other completely whackadoo improv games? This list is pretty fantastic.
What we learn today by Lijohnhieng
Today we take the video of the boys, I feel so kind nerous, because I never do some thing like this before, but I still finish the video. I put a good song in this post too.
Finishing the interactive video!!!
Today, we finished filming the interactive video!! It had been so fun! The boys shot the scenes in the park. they fell in a bunch of booby traps, and ending up splitting up. Go on Youtube soon to find out!
UBER FAST POST-LUNCH ANIMATED GLORY!!!
Animation can take a super long time. This one was super fast. The class was AMBUSHED after lunch (AAAH!!!!) and using a technique where the camera moves and the subject doesn't, we created the effect of a camera flying around each person in the class who then turns into the next person in the class. Wow.
Stop motion
The teacher was taking pictures of a student and then went it fast it on the computer and then it look like it was the student turning and not the teacher was moving at all this is like it is slow motion it and then it fast the pictures and then it look like it is moving.
iMovie MAAAAADNESSSSSS!!!!
For some reason the kids let Lisette use the computer MUAHAHAHAHA!!!
Seriously, though, they've all been taking turns at the computer today learning how to use iMovie to import, edit and export video. The next brave bold radically awesome step is to import those videos on to You Tube and hotlink all of them to create our interactive Choose Your Own Adventure. I'm impressed with what we got done before noon! RIGHT ON, FOLKS! THIS IS MADNESS!!

the girls from the interactive video are so cool
Our team is sooooooo totally gonna win. We're pretty, we're persuasive, we dominate our competition! Which pair of us is going to win?????? hmmm... Grace and Maya.. aka the downstairs girls or Joanna and Susan.. aka the upstairs girls... tough call! check us out on youtube soon!
Whats Poppin yo!!! The Boys Team
Yo!In our interactive video me and my boys are tryina find a haunted keyboard and we're gonna beat the gals. this is our pic of of me and my boys. Yall viewers are gonna play it soon on youtube, iight? Peace!
we're editing our interactive video on iMovie
yesterday, we began filming our interactive movie, Hunt For the Haunted Piano! It's a quest of boys vs. girls looking for a mysterious haunting piano that is keeping everyone up at night. it's really exciting and we can't wait for everyone to see it! we will post it on youtube when it is finished filming and editing. very exciting :)
projection
projection is a type of light source that can take an image from the computer and throws it on to a surface. the surface doesn't just have to be a screen. today we are going to talk about using projection for our final presentation.
yesterday's work
I was working on the telling story and then we tell some story are spoky and some are funny and then we was go to make a movie or video and then I was go to be in the boy's team and girl is in one team and then we are got to see the girl's first and then I has alot of fun.

THE MADNESS CONTINUES
By Susan
My second day at Multi Media Madness was fun! We had lots of MAD things going on today. At the beginning of the day, everyone just went inside (they forgot to sign in, ahhhhh!!!). when we got in, Joanna thought we might me doing story telling, so she wrote a story saying ‘Once upon a time, there was me. I was born, and then I was dead.’ Well, pretty exciting!! J However, she was right!! We are doing story telling!! Lisette introduced us to Twitter.com, and told us our theme for the day is STORY-TELLING!! That’s mad! Twitter only allows us to post at most 140 characters, and that’s about two sentences! That’s very limited!
Soon, we were playing a game called “And then…”. You play with a group. We picked someone to start the story with one sentence with the words ‘and then’ at the end. The next person continues off of that beginning. The first story went like this: ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A POTATOE…THE POTATO WAS IN A GARDEN…THE POTATO WAS DANCING WITH ANOTHER POTATOE…THEY SALSA UNTIL NOON…IT STARTED RAINING, AND THE TOMATOES CAME TO LIFE…THE TOMATOES WANTED TO DANCE, BUT THE POTATOES WON’T LET THEM…THE POTATOES SMASHED ALL THE POTATOES…AND THE FARMER ATE THEM ALL. That was a really funny ending!!
We filmed the above with a flip camera, it was handheld, so might be a little be unsteady. Soon, we had something else to do. We each have to write a short story, like this person on twitter. It has to be very, very short. If it’s more than one hundred forty characters, we’ll put in on the blog. It actually took me pretty long to do this, and what I did is very ridicules. I mean, who ever heard of a cat running out into the forest, came back as a unicorn, and made the owner forget about the cat? But I think it’s amazing how people can show the who, when, and where just in two or three sentences. The stories might be ridicules, but I did have a beginning, middle, and end!!
We had lunch, and Ron told us that there’s no more going out and buying lunch. Well, it’s reasonable. I’ve heard about this 12 year-old girl who got chopped up by a person and stuffed in refrigerator on her way home!! After lunch is the fun part.
We posted our stories on twitter and Blogger. Then, we made an interactive video!! It sort of like a game, where you chose what you want to do. There is the introduction, and you have to chose weather you go with the girls or the boys. The girls will also split up, and I have no idea what they are going to do. We shot some of it at city hall!!! I think some places that we’re no allowed to go to, like the dumpster at the basement. We plan girls team A will find the haunted piano. Girls team B will find a lost kitty. Boys will either find a soda machine or lose. I think we had a pretty good idea going, but sadly I had to leave for swimming. The very frustrating thing is, left class half an hour early, got to class late, and there was thunder. When I got back home, it was five. I just wasted the rest of my wonderful class for 20 minutes of swimming butterfly. Very disappointing. But now, I just can’t wait for tomorrow!!! I love MMM, and will definitely be joining next year!!!
I can't believe today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today we made our first interactive video!!!!!!! But we haven't finished it.
second day of Matv's new multi smedia madness
Today was our second day of Matv's new program called multi media madness!! we are learning how to create stories, using 'and then', video taping, and other cool ways. This program gets more exciting every day!!!! :)

The Stop Motion Animation Video Went Live!
We created this stop-motion animation yesterday and it's up online now!
LISETTE is ALONE in the studio...
This morning's work on "micro-fiction" and storytelling that is FAST and CONCISE was fantastic--- look at those blog and twitter postings! These folks are naturals at telling cool stories with few words. As the class shoots a Choose Your Own Adventure video with Ron, I'm editing their video stories from this morning.......and then........................

We Have a Twitter Account!!
Here is the LINK to our Twitter account!
This morning we created short, really short stories about different subjects. We would have one person record the other person as the other person says a part of the story. The other person would end with "and then". Then another person would start and continue the story. Soon everybody would have said a part of the story. The stories were creepy and funny.
We also created a Twitter account. The end

Multi Media Madness Class
Today we learned loooooooooooooots of new things. We learned how to create our own blog sites, and use stop motion, like they do in animations!!! We're also learning how to edit videos from just regular video cameras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This program is super cool, and I think we all are excited for the future things we have to learn here at Matv's Multi Media Madness!

multi-media madness, the first day of madness
the first day at multi-media madness was really fun, but we also learned a lot! we learned about two types of animation, stop motion and pixelation. stop motion is animation using objects, and pixelation is using people. we expirimented with both types and made our own videos, first using ourselves, and then with funny props that we found! we also watched some really cool stop motion videos by an animator called PES. he also made a pixelation video called "human skateboard." at first, we didn't know how it worked, but then we learned all about how it was done, and also how to make our own videos. we also learned about interactive videos, and watched some youtube videos that are interactive, such as rescuing a boy who had a spider on his head, making batman dance, and even using a human drumset! later, we played a game called "museum" where the "watchman," or woman, counts to ten and all the "statues" have to move and then pose, and they can't move until the watchman isn't looking, because if they get caught in motion, they'll be out. throughout the day, we learned about "frame theif," "iMovie," "quicktime," and "garage band" softwares. also, we learned how to use "flip" camcorders and "zoom" audio recorders. today was a very sucessful day and we learned a lot about multi-media, and the madness made it very fun!
i also learned that greenscreens turn everything neon green into the selected background, including my shoes!
looking forward to more madness!

My First Day at MATV- Joanna Zhou
Today was my first day at MATV Multi Media Madness. I had so much FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D We found out about a flip camera that has a USB inside. Also, we use a device called a Zoom to record our voices.
First thing in the morning, we made flip books. We each had half a deck of index cards. We drew little dots, each below one another, so when we flipped it, it looked like the dot was moving down.
Today we also learned about stop motion. We would stand still in a position, then Lisette( I hope I spelled your name right! Sorry if I didn't!) would take a picture of us from her computer. Then we would move an inch and Lisette would take a picture. Each time we would move an inch and Lisette would take a picture. Pretty soon we had tons of pictures stored up. Then Lisette used a software called Frame Thief to kind of put the pictures together in fast motion so it would look like we were moving. Pixolation would be the same thing except using objects. Animation was one of my favorite things today.
We also watched some videos by Pes who uses stop motion to create his videos. They were "Human Skateboard" and "Western Spaghetti". They were so awesome!!!!!!!!
I had so much fun today that I will definetly come back next year!!!!!!!!!

My first day of MMM-by Susan
My first day of MMM!!
By Susan
My first day of MMM is fun!! As I’m writing this for my blog, I’m also going to post this on the MMM blog as my homework! So I’m catching two fish with one hook (at least I think I am!!)! let me start from the beginning…
This morning, when I arrived at MATV, I was really excited. I’ve met the teacher, and she’s really nice. I wondered what we will be doing today. Soon I found out.
In studio A (the big one), we sat around the table. I knew most of the people. Joanna, my friend from fellowship, three people from KVA (kids adventure workshop. I went there last year), and three people from ELL. I didn’t know Gio, whose was helping our teacher, Lisette (sorry if I spelled her name wrong!!), teach the class. At first we made Flipbooks.
Today is all about animation, so we are going to draw a series of drawings on index cards and flip through them real fast so we see a smooth motion instead of a bunch of drawings. We did a dot dropping to the bottom of the page first. Then, we did our own animation. I did a stick person doing jumping jacks. I used the dot as the head. Some people did flowers, people fighting, and other very different and creative things. I think this class is going to be fun.
When we took a tour, we all went downstairs to the props. We were allowed to take one prop each, and most people took like a gun, or lifeguard hoop, saws, or small things. I took the best thing there—a cherry blossom tree!!! It was really heavy, but I got it down.
Lisette also introduced us to some new instruments. We had a little portable camera shaped just like a phone with a tiny tripod, called a flip. That’s because, as we soon found out, it had a little flipping USB hidden inside it. The other audio recorder is called a zoom, and is used to record audio (Of course! What else!?). The camera also has audio, but not as good as the zoom. We used them after we watched a video on Youtube called ‘Human Skateboard’. It’s created by an animator called Pes. It showed a person riding a skateboard, doing difficult jumps and twist and turn, and even jumping over a car! However, the skateboard is a person lying flat on his belly!! He actually stood on his in real life for hours and hours! Wow!!
Then, we made something like that using a software called Frame thief. We all stood in a row at the back of the room, and the computer took pictures of us every time we took a step. Then, we did some funny turns and stuff, and when we played it, I looked as if we were gliding towards the screen, glide back, turned round and round, and did silly moves. That’s called Pixilation. We also did a thing called stop motion. We put our props on the ground and moved them around. We took pictures of them in different positions, and it looks as if the props are haunted! We added animal noises, cartoon noises, and spooky noises with the zoom. Then, we imported them in to iMovie and Garageband. Those are editing softwares I have no idea how to use. I think I like final cut pro better.
We also played Museum, which is also Statue in the Park. I lost. Then, we watched some more REALLY COOL Pes animation. We also explored some chose your own adventure videos and I think that was a really cool and awesome day, and I love it.
The first day of going to MATV
Today I feel excited to go to the MATV and I learn a lot of thing that I never learn and I meet alot of friend than I saw some old friend too and I will go to the MATV every year!
WAHOO! (No More Technical Difficulties!!)
We started off our exploration of animation using some pixelation animation techniques borrowed from the PES animation we watched earlier. Just like a flipbook, but with photos instead of drawings on note cards, we created the illusion of some pretty weird movement and learned how frames per second (rather than pages we thumb through really fast) effect our overall video!
The next thing we did was a Foley sound technique -- like a voice over, or sound effects-- to give a little life to our video-- we havent combined the video and sound yet, though-- so here is our animation before the audio track was laid in!

we had lots of FUN!!!
This video was made using our Flip cameras-- so now we know how to use them! Here are a couple of us showing our in-process flip books.
After flip books we created our own pixelation of ourselves. we moved slowly or posed for pictures using a software called frame thief. a frame is a still picture that is put together with lots of other pictures to create the illusion of a video or motion picture.
Hopefully our animation video will be up really soon!
(Technical difficulties on day number ONE! It wouldn't be called Multi Media MAAAAADNESSSS without technical difficulties, now would it?)
Pes animations: Human skateboard
We watched an animation by Pes called "Human Skateboard."
This animation uses a technique called PIXELATION!
Pixelation is stop motion animation using people!
This is created by taking hundreds of photographs, just like pages in a flip book, and linking them together so it creates the illusion of movement!
Then we tried our hand at making our own!
We did it!
Sharing that soon....

How to Make Flipbooks
Today, at Multi Media Madness, we made FLIPBOOKS!!! We split half a deck of index cards in half and put blue tape around the edge of it. that way, we created a little booklet and drew a dot on the corner of the last page. then, we kept on drawing dots moving up or down on the following pages. I d a person doing jumping jacks. Fun!!
flip book animations ...... :D
On our first day of Matv Movie Maddness, we're learning how to make flip books, and how they work!!!!!
like if you start with a small dot, and slowly increase the size, it looks like it's growing, cool right??? :)
